Strategies for NL's Shrinking Workforce: Regional Approaches for Regional Impacts

Between now and 2030, Newfoundland and Labrador will see a rapid aging of its population and a significant decline in the number of people available for work. A shrinking workforce will make it difficult for the province to maintain the current level of economic activity without major improvements.


David Freshwater (University of Kentucky) and Jamie Ward (RAnLab, Memorial University) discuss the topic above in their recent report titled Strategies for NL's Shrinking Workforce: Regional Approaches for Regional Impacts. The report is published by the Harris Centre and can be found on their website. There is also a short summary report available.


To launch the report, the Harris Centre hosted an online public event on November 10, 2022 where David Freshwater presented an overview of the report. Joining him on the panel to answer questions were Jamie Ward, Craig Pollett (Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador), and Roseanne Leonard (CBDC). A recording of the event is available on the Harris Centre's YouTube channel.
