Why your favourite Newfoundland restaurant or takeout is closing early

In November 2021, Jamie Ward (Manager of RAnLab) spoke with Saltwire Network to discuss Newfoundland's labour market and restaurant industry. Many employers are short on people to prepare and serve food.


Ward tells us that the "industry has always had a high turnover rate" and the labour shortages are not unexpected. Data models show this trend, though it's happened a bit earlier than otherwise might have happened had the labour market not been impacted by COVID-19.


The same labour concerns are present across the country. Ward says that businesses and governments can approach this complex problem in different ways.
